I always wanted my own shop: somewhere to offer well designed products and good service in the type of welcoming environment that I looked for but seldom found. This desire, combined with my background in textiles and design, my love of the visual and years spent buying and collecting, inspired me to realise my dream.
It was not long after moving to the coastal town of Hastings in the Spring of 2010, with its deep roots and a stubborn individualism that suited my vision perfectly, that I opened my shop, Warp & Weft, nestling in the heart of the historic Old Town.
I started with next to nothing but lots of imagination. I opened with a range of vintage and historic pieces that I had collected, alongside handmade items that I sourced from Tangier and the Riff, where I was drawn to the craftsmanship and the quality of the materials. Since then the shop has continually evolved but the original ethos remains the same...attention is on creating the timeless, rather than following a trend.
The shop now has a range of select and carefully curated garments, accessories and products for the home. These are either choice vintage pieces that influence my ideas and epitomise the shop mood, or my own designs, that include a 'Made to Order' range, handmade by talented makers from home and abroad, using high quality, natural materials. I also source products that fit with the look and ethos of the shop from other independent British brands. In addition, I have developed a styling service which ranges from personal, interior and commercial clients.
To the customer I offer an integrity and personal service, combined with products that are unique, classic and made to last. For me, I stay in love with my work by making sure I treat my shop as a space for creativity, allowing for a flow of ideas and hopefully that rubs off and inspires anyone who visits.
